An AI-powered full-stack e-commerce platform built to deliver a personalized, secure, and responsive online shopping experience.
ByteMart combines a complete e-commerce workflow with AI-powered product assistance, secure authentication, online payments, order tracking, and dedicated dashboards for both customers and administrators.
Modern e-commerce platforms need to do more than display products and process orders.
Customers expect fast product discovery, useful recommendations, easy comparison, personalized assistance, secure checkout, and clear order tracking. At the same time, administrators need centralized tools for managing products, customers, orders, and business activity.
I wanted to build an e-commerce platform that combines these experiences into one system while using AI to make product discovery and purchasing decisions more interactive.
The goal was to create a platform where users could discover products, understand their options, receive AI assistance, complete purchases securely, and track their orders from a single application.
I built ByteMart as a full-stack e-commerce platform with separate experiences for customers and administrators.
The platform includes:
Product browsing and discovery
Product search and filtering
Wishlist management
Shopping cart
Secure checkout
Multiple payment methods
SSLCommerz integration
Order management
Real-time order tracking
User profile management
Admin product management
Admin order management
User management
Analytics dashboard
AI product recommendations
AI product comparison
Context-aware AI chatbot
Responsive interface
Smooth animations
The result is a complete shopping platform that combines traditional e-commerce functionality with AI-powered personalization.
ByteMart follows a modern full-stack architecture using React on the frontend and Node.js with Express on the backend.
A simplified architecture looks like:

SSLCommerzThe architecture separates the frontend presentation layer from backend business logic while using dedicated services for authentication, AI functionality, and payment processing.
One of the main differentiators of ByteMart is its integration with Google Gemini AI.
Rather than using AI as a standalone chatbot, I integrated it into the shopping workflow so that it can assist users while they browse and evaluate products.
The AI layer provides three major capabilities:
The system can provide product suggestions based on the user's current shopping context.
This helps users discover relevant products without relying entirely on manual searching and filtering.
The recommendation workflow can be represented as:
User Activity
↓
Current Product / Context
↓
Relevant Product Data
↓
Gemini AI
↓
Personalized RecommendationThe AI is therefore connected to the application's product context instead of operating as an isolated conversational interface.
Choosing between similar products can be difficult when specifications and features need to be compared manually.
ByteMart uses Gemini AI to help users understand differences between products and make comparisons in a more conversational format.
The system can organize product information into a clearer comparison experience.
ByteMart also includes an AI shopping assistant that can answer product-related questions.
Instead of providing generic responses, the assistant can work with the application's shopping context to help users understand products and navigate their purchasing decisions.
This creates a more interactive shopping experience:

Relevant ResponseAuthentication is handled through Firebase Authentication.
The platform supports secure user authentication while separating customer functionality from administrative functionality.
The application uses role-based access control to distinguish between:
Customers can:
Browse products
Manage their profile
Add products to their wishlist
Manage their cart
Place orders
Track orders
Interact with AI features
Administrators can:
Manage products
Manage orders
Manage users
Monitor platform activity
Access analytics
Manage inventory-related information
This separation ensures that administrative functionality is available only to authorized users.
The admin dashboard provides a centralized product management system.
Administrators can manage product information without directly interacting with the database.
The product workflow includes:
Admin Dashboard

Create / Edit Product
↓
Product Data
↓
Database
↓
Storefront
↓
CustomerThis allows the storefront to remain dynamically connected to the underlying product catalog.
ByteMart provides standard shopping functionality through dedicated cart and wishlist systems.
Users can save products for later through their wishlist and add products to their cart when they are ready to purchase.
The shopping workflow follows:
Browse
↓
View Product
↓
Wishlist / Cart
↓
Checkout
↓
Payment
↓
OrderThis creates a clear path from product discovery to purchase.
ByteMart integrates SSLCommerz to support online payments.
The checkout system is designed to handle multiple payment methods while keeping payment processing separate from the core application logic.
The payment flow works conceptually as:
Customer
↓
Checkout
↓
Create Order
↓
Payment Gateway
↓
Payment Result
↓
Update Order
↓
Order ConfirmationThis separation makes it easier to manage payment states and maintain consistent order information.
After completing a purchase, customers can monitor their orders through their dashboard.
The platform maintains order information and provides status updates throughout the order lifecycle.
A typical workflow looks like:
Order Placed
↓
Payment Confirmed
↓
Processing
↓
Shipped
↓
Out for Delivery
↓
DeliveredThis gives customers greater visibility into their purchases while providing administrators with tools for managing order activity.
The administrative dashboard provides centralized control over the platform.
Administrators can manage:
Products
Orders
Users
Platform data
Analytics
The dashboard is designed around quick access to important information and common management operations.
This allows administrators to manage the e-commerce platform without needing direct database access.
Performance was an important consideration because an e-commerce application can involve frequent API requests, product browsing, filtering, authentication, and dynamic data updates.
I used Vite for a fast frontend development and build workflow and TanStack Query for efficient server-state management.
TanStack Query helps manage:
API requests
Server-side data
Caching
Loading states
Error states
Data synchronization
This reduces unnecessary requests and helps keep frequently accessed data synchronized with the backend.
The storefront was designed to work across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
The interface uses React and Tailwind CSS to build reusable and responsive components.
The design focuses on:
Product-focused layouts
Clear navigation
Responsive product grids
Interactive cards
Consistent spacing
Smooth transitions
Clear checkout flows
Mobile-friendly interfaces
Animations and interaction effects are used to provide a more polished shopping experience while keeping the core workflows straightforward.
A major challenge was making the AI features useful within an actual e-commerce environment.
A generic chatbot is relatively straightforward to implement, but a shopping assistant needs relevant product context to provide meaningful responses.
The application therefore needs to connect product information and user context with the AI interaction.

Context-Aware ResponseThis makes the AI functionality part of the shopping workflow rather than a disconnected feature.
Payment processing introduces multiple possible states.
An order may be created before payment is completed, payment may succeed or fail, and the order needs to reflect the appropriate status.
I designed the workflow around explicit order and payment states so that the application can distinguish between:
Pending
Successful
Failed
Cancelled
This is important for maintaining accurate order information throughout the checkout process.
The storefront continuously interacts with backend data such as products, users, carts, and orders.
Using TanStack Query allowed me to separate server state from local UI state and handle data fetching, caching, synchronization, and loading states more systematically.
This helped keep the application responsive while reducing unnecessary network requests.
Security was considered across authentication, authorization, and payment workflows.
The application uses Firebase Authentication for identity management and role-based authorization to control access to administrative functionality.
Sensitive payment processing is delegated to the payment gateway rather than being handled directly by the application.
The backend also acts as the main authority for protected operations instead of relying solely on frontend restrictions.
